Oh, the great disaster of New York Comic Con 2014. All names used are aliases and any familiarity with them is completely and totally coincidental. Honestly, I got all of the aliases from Game of Thrones. October 12th, 2014 7:59 AM-I arrive at the Matawan-Aberdeen train station with Talisa nowhere to be seen. To my surprise, I see Gandalf laughing like crazy with what looks to be Ray Stantz from The Ghostbusters and a mini-me version of him. 8:15 AM- I see Talisa roll up in her Tony Stark costume I was unsure she could pull off and didn't want her to try(I hope she does not see this but the stache kinda worked). We buy our tickets for the 8:36 train and wait. 8:36 AM-The train doesn't come. The disaster begins. 8:45 AM-Tension rises as the train is said to be delayed until 8:55. 8:55 AM-The train arrives and we get on. Sansa, Margaery, Catelyn, and Ned are not in the same car as us so we move. We move across the train cars like daredevils (not really though) until we hit something unexpected, a blockade. We figure the blockade is between the car we are in and the car our friends are in so we hatch a plan. 9:12 AM-We spring into action and rocket out of the train doors on the South Amboy Train Station and go past the blockaded car. Something is wrong. All the train car doors past ours is locked shut. I run as fast as I can back to our train door as it snaps closed. I see a woman conductor inside and plead with her to open the doors but she just shakes her head in pity. We're stranded. 9:42 AM-After a series of fights and weeping after being stranded in the cold for 30 minutes, we settle down on a bench and listen to Breezeblocks by Alt J, a song I still have stuck in my head to this very day. 9:55 AM-The train comes but me and Talisa are on bad terms. We will be 3 hours late for NYCC and basically mope in our seats. 11:00 AM- We arrive at Penn Station and run as fast as we can to the Javitz center. The center almost looks like a glass monstrosity, but against the sun's rays it shimmered with a heavenly glow which was undescribable. I have reached nerd heaven. 12:00 PM-After meeting up with the friends we decided to plunge into what NYCC had to offer. We did not know what to do so we wandered around aimlessly and took photos with people who looked cool. Then, I realize that when over a thousand nerds fill a room, the room becomes very hot; this is a problem as some do not believe in the concept of proper hygiene. B.O everywhere. 1:30 PM-After plenty more time of wandering around and looking at cosplay and extremely overpriced merchandised, something glorious happened. Out of the glimpse of my eye I spied a figure I recognized and tentatively I called out to the figure to see whether or not my eyes were deceiving me. In front of me was the YouTuber that had gotten me through my middle school years with his humor and gaming channel, he likes to be called TehSmarty. I fangirled, took a selfie, then fangirled some more after he retweeted me! I'll spare you the embarassing photo that came out of this situation (one can stalk my twitter to see it if one really wants to, but I suggest not doing so). 2:30 PM- Me and three other friends split up the cost to buy ourselves a photo op with the legendary Stephen Amell! If that names sounds familiar, it's because he plays Oliver Queen in The Arrow, a fantastic show that I might review someday on here. We are told to be at the photo op at 3:30 PM. 3:00 PM- The group finds out our idol, Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York is holding a panel so we rush into the room and grab chairs. His speech is the most inspirational thing I've heard in my life and I still do not believe how it was all impromptu. The man not only has talent as a photographer, but I believe he could be a world-class speaker! 3:30 PM-Brandon is still talking but I realize that my friends and I have to go to the photo op, or our money'll be wasted. I gesture to them, but they don't budge out of their seats one bit. After trying this strategy roughly 10 more times, I get fed up and just leave by myself. Unfortunately for me, I did not know where the photo op was or have the tickets for it so I had to wait outside the panel room until they exited. 3:45 PM- My friends exit the panel, at which point I start scolding them for not going with me to the photo op and all they can do is apologize. I recognize how bad of a day I've had in that moment and start sulking. I have argued with every friend of mine in the past 4 hours. 4:15 PM- Talisa joins me to go to a meetup with another one of my favorite YouTubers. I meet him and realize he is a massive jerk when I see how he treats his fans, further ruining my already bad day. He was nowhere as friendly as the YouTube I met earlier that day. 5:30 PM- We leave to go the Shake Shack, a place in New York City renowned for their milkshakes. I take a sip of my milkshake and find I am unimpressed. There weren't even any chairs in which to sit in! Plus, the burger I got was so spicy I swear I felt it 3 hours later. 7:00 PM- The hunt for Penn Station was on. Using 4 different GPS apps did not prove useful in finding the train station. In fact, we got lost. Let me tell you, being lost in the middle of Times Square at night is one of the most stressful experiences I've ever encountered in my life so far. How is one expected to orientate oneself when you're too busy dodging purses that feel like baseball bats every time they hit you? 8:00 PM- We finally reach Penn Station and all seems well after we buy tickets for the 9 o'clock train. 8:55 PM- I look around and half of the group is nowhere to be seen. I look for them frantically, as the other half also does not know where they went. I feel like I'm betraying them when I leave to go to the platform without finding them. 9:00 PM- I get on the train car to realize that none of my friends got on with me. Soon I find out that they all ditched me for another car "on accident," although I'm suspicious. I ride without them. I got home around 10 PM that dreadful day. I felt exhausted physically and mentally, but was glad to be out of that odor. NYCC 14 was not fun, but my friends and I hope to fix that in NYCC 15, so wish us luck. This is my first blog post and I decided to make it unique with how I recount my tale. I hope I did not bore you with the timeline pattern I used and believe that this'll be the last time I format something like this. Thank you for reading! |

I actually liked the timeline format; I wasn't bored at all! And I may or may not have stalked your twitter (you made the photo sound way worse than it was!). Sorry to hear that your Shake Shack experience was bad; I love that place! Despite the badness of your day, I hope you will look back and laugh! And hey, you got to see Brandon talk, so O M GGGG!

Contrary to what you may have thought, I actually enjoyed the timeline format that you used in your blog post. I also liked the fact that you spoke in an informal, personal first-person tone similar to the way that you would probably talk to a person in real life and incorporated sarcasm and mild humor into your writing. (I am also incredibly jealous that you got to see Brandon.)
